Testing is nearly complete on the three different horizontal directional drill wastewater pipelines.
In mid-December of 2023, the 18-inch high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic pipeline underwent hydrostatic testing. This is a pressure test using water to analyze the durability of the pipe as well as the quality of the welded joints. During the test, pressure was held for one hour while the team checked there was no leakage over a three hour period. The water for the testing was used from Santee Lakes and later returned to the lake to avoid waste.
The 8-inch pipeline that was fused together late last year has since undergone air testing. The final HDD component to be tested is the 36-inch pipeline with that slated to happen within the next few months.
The testing of these pipelines is a requirement before moving on to the next step of construction.
