A frequently asked question of the East County AWP Program is, who will receive this purified water?
Once the program is up and running in a couple of years from now, it’ll create up to 11.5 million gallons of purified water per day.
This water will flow from the faucets of customers in Padre Dam Municipal Water District, Helix Water District and Lakeside Water District service areas as well as the northern portion of Otay Water District’s service area (map below).
The program will have the capability to serve an estimated 400,000 people. This equates to roughly 30% of East San Diego County’s water supply.
The majority of project construction is expected to be complete in 2025. This means this purified water is slated to end up in your glass as soon as 2026.
